But What Gerard Way Really Wants To Do Is Direct
The Umbrella Academy might be in comic book stores everywhere, but if Hollywood has its way, the Gerard Way-penned graphic novel might be appearing in movie theaters, too.

Though busy writing for the next My Chemical Romance album in Los Angeles, Gerard Way managed to find the time to chat with Kerrang! Magazine about the possibility of his graphic novel series—The Umbrella Academy—being turned into a major-motion picture. Apparently, the tome has already been optioned by Universal and Way is already interested in directing.
With a new baby expected this summer and a new My Chem album soon thereafter, where does G. Way find the time??

“There’s been a lot of progress on it,” Way tells K!. “Things in Hollywood move slow typically, but the comic was optioned as a film right before the San Diego Comic Convention last July. As soon as I got home from that I started meeting people at Universal and the film got fast-tracked and so recently I’ve been in talking to them about three times a week, first talking about the tone the film might have and then talking about screen writers who are going to work very closely with me when it comes time to do the film.”
